About Photo Forum: An Independent Photography Journal
Photo Forum is an independent journal about documentary photography, photojournalism and the places in London where photographers show and discuss their work.
What this site is
This site publishes profiles of documentary photographers, guides to photography talks and exhibitions in London, and articles about photographic practice. Everything here is written as editorial reference material. There is nothing to book, join or buy.
Many of the pages are organised around photographers who spoke at photography talks in London between 2017 and 2020. We use those talks as a starting point for introducing each photographer's work, because they are a useful record of who was presenting documentary projects in the city during those years.
What this site is not
We are not affiliated with the former PhotoForum talks group, and we are not connected with theprintspace, the venue that hosted its meetings. PhotoForum was an independent group of photographers that ran free monthly talks in London from 2007, with its last events taking place in early 2020. That group is not involved in this website, does not write for it and does not endorse it.
We do not organise talks, lectures or meetups. We do not sell tickets, take bookings or collect registrations. If you are looking for a specific event, go to the organiser or the venue directly rather than to this site.
How we write
Our editorial principles are straightforward, and they are worth stating plainly because this is a site built around other people's work.
- Facts come from named sources. Where we describe a photographer's projects, books or awards, the information comes from their own website, their publisher, or the organisation that gave the award. We link to those sources so you can check them.
- We do not invent quotes or interviews. Nothing on this site is presented as something a photographer said to us. Where we refer to a photographer's own words, they are published words, and we link to where they were published.
- We do not publish other people's photographs without permission. The images used on this site are licensed stock photographs or our own. A photographer's work is theirs, and a profile of their practice does not entitle us to reproduce it.
- We correct things. If a page is wrong, out of date, or describes your work in a way you do not recognise, write to us and we will fix it.
Photographers and their work
If you are one of the photographers written about here, the pages on this site are built from publicly available information. You are welcome to ask us to update a profile, add a current link, or remove it entirely. We will not argue the point.
